2026 World Cup opening match kicks off at Azteca Stadium
The Azteca Stadium becomes the first venue to host three different World Cup openers, having previously done so in 1970 and 1986. Despite the extraordinary atmosphere in Mexico City, heavy rain causing puddles on the pitch and seven anti-government protests nearby pose challenges for organizers.
The expanded format concludes with the final in New Jersey on July 19.
