August 2026 Full Moon and Partial Lunar Eclipse Set for Late Month

The next Full Moon already has a date and promises to deliver one of the most striking astronomical spectacles of 2026 as the Sturgeon Moon. It will reach its peak in late August, with the best observation window during the night of August 27.

The natural satellite will appear above the horizon with an almost total brightness during this evening. In addition to the full phase, this event features an extra attraction by coinciding with a partial lunar eclipse visible across much of US territory.

The Earth's shadow will cover a significant part of the Moon for several hours without requiring specialized equipment. The official full moon phase occurs during the early hours of August 28, though observers can enjoy it the night before.

The satellite will appear completely illuminated from Earth's perspective, becoming one of the brightest objects in the night sky.
