Feijóo Slams Spain’s ‘Grandchildren Law’, Calls Citizenship Reform Unfair

On July 6, opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo appeared on Antena 3’s ‘Espejo Público’ to criticize the recently approved citizenship law that grants nationality to grandchildren of Spanish ancestors. He described the measure as a ‘grandchildren law’ and warned that it could increase the electoral roll by around 10 percent, potentially allowing hundreds of thousands of remote descendants to vote.

Feijóo argued the reform undermines Spain’s historical identity and risks politicising citizenship. The remarks have sparked a heated debate on immigration and national identity.
