Jhon Córdoba ruled out of 2026 World Cup after severe muscle injury

Colombia's national team announced that striker Jhon Córdoba will miss the 2026 World Cup after suffering a severe muscle injury during the round‑of‑32 match against Ghana on July 3 in Kansas City. The injury occurred in the 6th minute when Córdoba pushed hard down the right flank and immediately felt a sharp pain in his left leg, forcing him to limp off the field.

Coach Néstor Lorenzo had to substitute him with Luis Javier Suárez, reshaping the attacking setup. Córdoba’s absence weakens Colombia’s offensive firepower and places greater responsibility on the remaining forwards for the upcoming group matches.
