RAE Declares San Fermín Festival Name Should Be Written as One Word

Between July 6 and 14, Pamplona’s San Fermín festivities generate many spelling questions, which the Royal Spanish Academy and Fundéu have addressed. The academy recommends writing the festival name as the single word ‘sanfermines’ without italics or quotation marks.

Capitalization rules state that the event is ‘San Fermín’ in general references, while the official title is ‘Fiestas de San Fermín’. Both ‘pamplonica’ and ‘pamplonés’ are accepted as demonyms for locals.
