Tua Tagovailoa Sidelined After Injury Before Season Opener

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa faces another major setback after suffering an oblique injury during practice ahead of the season opener. The Atlanta Falcons signed him in the offseason to serve as the backup quarterback behind Michael Penix Jr.

However, Penix failed to recover in time for Week 1, opening the door for Tagovailoa to start. Unfortunately, Tagovailoa struggled significantly throughout the preseason following a difficult end to his tenure with the Miami Dolphins.

This latest physical issue completely halts his golden opportunity to resurrect his NFL career on the field. Third-string quarterback Cooper Rush is now set to replace him for the opening game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tagovailoa's absence could be extended if Penix manages to return within the next couple of weeks. Consequently, this unfortunate timing threatens to derail his aspirations of securing a permanent role.
