World Cup knockout stage extra time rules explained
Extra time adds 30 minutes after the regular 90, divided into two 15‑minute halves. Teams may make up to five substitutions during this period.
The golden‑goal rule was abolished after 2022, so play continues even after a goal. If scores remain level after extra time, a penalty shoot‑out decides the winner.
