Zapatero’s Safe Jewels Valued at €1.3 Million
Spain’s Supreme Court has confirmed that the jewels discovered in former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero’s safe are worth approximately €1. 3 million, far exceeding earlier estimates.
The appraisal was carried out by the historic jeweller Ansorena with technical assistance from the Spanish Institute of Gemology. The collection comprises a necklace, bracelet, ring and two earrings featuring Arab‑inspired designs.
The report notes that one set contains emeralds, another rubies, and all pieces are set with authentic diamonds. Earlier speculation had placed the value at only €30‑50 k, a figure now proven dramatically inaccurate.
